Let my Words Speak Truth.

“Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.”

Ephesians 4:29 (Amplified)

Words. We use them everyday, many times we take them for-granted, throwing them about with no consideration to what we are saying and who we are saying them too. Rather than choosing our words carefully we allow our emotions let our mouths run rampant and share words that should have never been said. Our emotions and feelings in any given moment choose our words for us with no consideration of consequence until we realize we have broken someone down or shared something that was told in confidence.

Our words have power.

Words can break someone down. Words can lift someone up.

Many of us our familiar with Ephesians 4:29, and we read it with agreement, in the back of our minds checking that since we do not curse we’ve got this down. However, unwholesome talk or worthless talk is not simply limited to cursing, or yelling, it doesn’t end at our anger but it envelops a range of things. Unwholesome talk starts in the morning as we complain about another day at work with that one employee we don’t get along with, or the anger when someone cuts you off on the highway as you spill your coffee down your front. Our words are powerful, and we want to use them, but use them appropriately.

Recently a youth pastor friend of mine shared about asking his students about what he has said or done that has impacted their lives. To his surprise one of the girls in his group responded that the one thing he did that CHANGED her LIFE was tell her “I believe in you, you can do anything.” One simple sentence. Just eight short words, nothing fancy about them, but they changed a life, they allowed someone to believe in themselves and the future they had in store. Our words have power that we forget and don’t realize, if something as simple as ‘I believe in you’ can change a life, just imagine how much impact our negative words have on others?

As humans we believe words easily, even when the Bible contradicts what we are told in the world we believe in the negative words that are spoken over us, that we are worthless, dumb, unloved, alone, a mistake, a failure. These words are lies. Lies that we should never speak over someone.

Let’s be intentional about the words we choose to speak. Make intentional choices when talking to people that instead of spreading rumors and sharing gossip, and being negative we need to spread words of encouragement, words that speak life and fill people with the love of God.

We want to build people up, encouraging each other, simple words can change a life and encouragement will change the atmosphere entirely, it is positive and it leaves hope. True encouragement is found in the word of God and it will change lives.

Words, Hawk Nelson

Unspoken By: Dee Henderson

If you are a fan of Dee Henderson’s books you will also enjoy this one, although her writing style has changed since previous books she still holds true to her attention to detail. Bryce Graham is bored with his everyday, running the coin shop and going about life has become boring, and with it he finds himself considering finding something else to do, and than Charlotte Graham appears, and with her a collection of coins that Bryce could only ever dream of seeing. Charlotte has asked him to sell all the coins, and as time goes on he finds that Charlotte isn’t who she claims to be, that there is something she isn’t saying.

Unspoken has strong characters that are enjoyable to read their story, many times things are hinted about their past but you never learn more which is a little disappointing as well as connections that become obvious later on in the book. I enjoyed this book a lot, however it was not quite the page turner that I have come to expect from Henderson. Lately her books seem more focused on the characters which is great but it leaves pieces of the plot lacking. With that being said, it is still worth reading and checking out!

A Christmas Gift for Rose By: Tricia Goyer

Set in Ohio just after WWII A Christmas Gift for Rose follows the story of Rose, a young Amish woman, who believed she knew what her future held, a typical Amish life, married to Jonathan and staying at home creating the family she dreams of. With Jonathan returning from the war, she doesn’t know if she could go back to him, with the disapproval of the Amish community. Rose’s family has a secret about her life, and in the midst of everything with Jonathan they give her some information that sends her world into a spiral of questions and has her wondering where her life will lead.

A Christmas Gift for Rose is a beautiful story about love and finding yourself and finding where your home truly is. Tricia Goyer has shared with us an amazing story of love, faith and family just in time for the Christmas season. This book will pull at your heartstrings. A short and quick read, this is the book you will want to share with all your friends and family.

Grace Unplugged By: Melody Carlson

Grace Unplugged By Melody Carlson

Grace Trey has always dreamed of playing her own music, of making it big and being able to share her music with the world, when she attempts to do her own thing with music her father, Johnny Trey, former one hit wonder turned worship leader brings it to a halt. Although she enjoys playing on the worship team at church she doesn’t understand why her father is against the new sound she enjoys bringing into worship.

When a friend from her father’s music days shows up unexpectedly asking him to rerecord his song and Johnny turns him down, Grace finds it to be the perfect chance to get her big break. Grace moves to LA and quickly learns what it means to be a rising star in the music industry and begins to learn that it isn’t everything she thought it would be.  Grace finds herself surrounded by worldly things, being set up and lied too and is unable to write the song she knows is in her heart she is on a downward spiral and as far away from God as she has ever been before.

Melody Carlson has done a great job with Grace Unplugged, it is a familiar story that all of us face, a story of chasing after the things we want by worldly standards and learning that if we follow God and hand our dreams to Him, He will fill them in bigger and better ways than we could have imagined. Through this story Grace struggles with family and friends and career choices, and her faith, something that all young Christians go through at some point.

Carlson created a great story that you will love! I am excited to see how the movie compares, this is a great weekend read!
