The One Year Devotions for Women: Becoming a Woman at Peace - By: Ann Spangler

We all have those moments where we realize we would give anything for a little bit of peace and quiet, with the hustle and bustle of our daily lives it feels as if peace is unattainable, a dream we can only reach for. We attempt to schedule time and moments to get our lives under control but we let life get in the way. Ann Spangler has put together a year long devotional that will aid you in becoming a woman of peace and understanding what the Bible says about peace.

This devotional is great for those who feel they don’t have time or a moment to find peace, with daily devotionals that are a page long that include insights into peace and a short verse that is easy to focus on and mull over throughout the day will get you started in understanding the peace that God offers each of us. Each devotional will help to guide you through your day, this is a great to book to keep around at work that can be read on your break when you need a moment of peace each day.

100 Dreams.

Earlier this year my Pastor put out a challenge. He challenged each of us to come up with a list of 100 dreams. As an idea this sounded easy, I’m a dreamer, I always have been, my head floats among the clouds on most days. In practice this wasn’t so easy. What 100 dreams do I have for my life? What do I want to accomplish? What do I want to change. Months later I am still working on putting my list together, but I am ok with not having a finished list, and as things get added I also get to cross things off. Dreams change from season to season, some you complete, some get placed in a box until a later date and others fade away. However, there has been one dream at the top of my list, way before I ever formally wrote it down, I have always wanted to go on a missions trip.

From the time I learned about spiritual gifts my highest ranked gift has been service, I’ve always loved to help, to volunteer, to lend a hand when needed, it is a part of me that will never fade, it’s a gift that makes me who I am and has led me into my career. For years it has been on my heart to go on a missions trip and serve with the church, but I’ve always found myself making excuses, I didn’t have the vacation time, there was no way I could find the funding, it wasn’t the right season, I’ve come to realize that I am allowing worries of the everyday to stop something that God has placed within my heart.

This year when my church announced the trips that would be happening, I just knew that I was supposed to go on the Peru trip, I wasn’t concerned about raising funds or finding vacation time, I just knew that I had to go. This will be the first time for my church to go to Peru that I am aware of, and we will be headed to Lima in April to connect with the local church to see how we can help and to create plans for the future as we build relationships with those in Peru.

So here I am. Three days from the deadline for the deposit to be able to participate in the trip. I am not exactly sure how I will raise the funds or where it will come from, what I do know is that I am supposed to go. I also know that I have a strong and powerful God who will show me the way.

I ask that each of you consider to come alongside me, whether that be financially and/or prayerfully I want to thank you for your support. If you feel led to give towards this trip, please contact me on the page or e-mail me at

Take Flight! By Robin Jones Gunn and Cindy Hannan

Sisterchicks’ Take Flight is a great on hand devotional when you need a little bit of encouragement throughout your day. Robin Jones Gunn and Cindy Hannan have come together and compliment each other while sharing stories that will help each of us to strengthen our own personal walk with God. Each section is filled with quotes and scripture to think about as well as a section for you to take notes.

Each section includes 3-4 stories that would take 5-10 minutes each to read and are great to turn to while on a lunch break and needing a moment to breath. This book would also be great to use during a small group because of the great discussion that could come out of each section. This book is full of encouragement, hope and honesty that will have you sharing the stories with your closest sisterchicks!

Doon By @LorieLangdon and @careycorp

I have always loved the story of Brigadoon, the idea of a mysterious land appearing out of the mists every one hundred years. It was no surprise that I loved the fantastic story that transports you back into a fairytale with a modern twist. Veronica and Mackenna are excited to spend their vacation in Scotland at the cottage that Mackenna inherited from her Aunt Gracie. Before Veronica has even left the states she sees a boy in a kilt who continues to call out to her and makes her wonder if something awaits her in Scotland.

Once in Scotland Veronica and Mackenna find themselves in Doon, where the legend of Brigadoon comes to life, the only problem is the gates weren’t supposed to open yet and the people of Doon believe the girls to be witches as strange things begin to happen with people disappearing, and an evil entering into the Kingdom. While in Doon Veronica finds her mystery boy, however, he seems to dislike her. With two weeks until the bridge reopens so that Veronica and Mackenna are able to leave Doon, Veronica begins to wonder if their appearance and the evil that has entered the land is some how linked to them.

This book captivated my attention from the start and had me humming ‘once in the highlands’ through the whole book. With vivid imagery that brings you to old Scotland, I was unable to put this book down and was captured by the entire story of Doon and its’ people. Both authors did an amazing job compiling the story so that it melded beautifully and created an adventure that will keep you glued to the pages. The only thing that was a negative for me was I was surprised by certain scenes being included since this book was written under a Christian publisher, but the story was great and I cannot wait to see how it continues.

The Nativity Story App

Christmas is just around the corner and the new interactive Nativity Story is a great gift for kids. With Iphones and Ipads being the new way to entertain kids this app will keep them entertained as well as teaching them what Christmas is all about. Kids love apps, to the point that they can operate our phones and tablets better than we can, rather than getting a new game The Nativity Story App is a great addition for kids to learn and read the Nativity story again and again.

This is a great idea for kids just learning to read, they can read the story themselves or read along with the narrator.

This app shares the Nativity Story in a new and interactive way, the voices of the characters keep you entertained and following along the story as well as the ability to interact with the story as it goes on. The sound effects and music are fun and add to the story rather than distract. Unlike most apps and games the illustrations are beautifully detailed and come to life right before your eyes.

The whole family will love going through the Nativity Story App together just in time for Christmas.

Get the App here! Or search in the app store.
