Flying Solo

Over the last few years I have seen a few friends commit to creating and accomplishing a 30 by 30 list, and throughout the last few months I have been compiling my list and things I wanted to accomplish by the time I turned 30. I admit that my list is slightly on the selfish side but I have also chosen many things that are going to be a challenge for me. So as of today I have exactly one year until I turn 30 and I decided that was the perfect time to share my list.

Throughout the year I will continue to post updates about where I am at on my list, and you will also be able to go to my #30by30 page to see updates.

I will also add as a disclaimer, that although I plan to complete this list, some items are open to flexibility…

About the Author

Dani Pettrey is a wife, home-schooling mom, and the acclaimed author of the romantic suspense series Alaskan Courage, which includes her bestselling novels Submerged, Shattered, Stranded, Silenced, and her latest release,Sabotaged. She feels blessed to write inspirational romantic suspense because it incorporates so many things she loves–the thrill of adventure, nail biting suspense, the deepening of her characters’ faith, and plenty of romance. She and her husband reside in Maryland, where they enjoy time with their daughters, son-in-law, and super-adorable grandson.

My Review:

It has arrived. It is a bittersweet moment for me, the final book in the Alaskan Courage series. Throughout these five books the McKenna’s have become my friends, they have become a book series I will re-read over and over. However, even with it being the end of the series, it did not keep me from devouring this book from the very start! Sabotaged may be one of my favorites of the set (However, I really am partial to Kayden’s story in Silenced). Pettrey has continued to impress with each book, with twists and turns you never know quite what you are getting into.

Reef’s story is no different, although through him and Kirra I believe that Dani has reached another level with her characters. I loved the characters of the previous book but there is something about Kirra and Reef that is very human and authentic. The problems they face on a personal and emotional level and you can connect with their struggles and inner turmoil of figuring how to navigate a new relationship with the baggage of someone’s past and working on moving on while embracing what God has planned for you.

I can never say enough good things about the Alaskan Courage series and I highly recommend all of them. Just a warning, once you start you won’t want to put them down, so you may want to purchase them all at once!

Guest Review: The 5 Love Languages Men’s Edition By: Gary Chapman

This is the first guest blog review for the site! Review by Ash Carreno

Everyone has heard of the book the 5 Love Languages at some point or other, the latest book is specifically geared towards men and their relationships.

For someone in a relatively new relationship reading a book like “The 5 love languages for men” was really eye opening. I used to think I knew what my love language or languages were but reading this helped me to truly understand what they are. Acts of service was not one I thought I had but after reading this I discovered that Acts of Service is actually my number one love language followed by physical touch and words of affirmation. It’s also helped me to realize and pick up on my girlfriends love languages a little better. From cover to cover this was a fun and educational read and I would recommend that anyone in a relationship or anyone wanting to be in a relationship give this a read because it is quite insightful.

Believe: Living the Story of the Bible to Become like Jesus

Believe: Living the Story of the Bible to Become like Jesus is a a selection of passages from the New International Version. The book is broken down into sections Think, Act, and Be and focuses on the basics of Christianity. The three sections break down into ‘What do I believe?’ ‘What should I do?’ and ‘Who am I becoming?’ from there they break down into chapters about God, Salvation, Humanity, Worship, Prayer, Offering time, Sharing my Faith, Hope, Patience, and Humility.

Each chapter is back to back passages and verses that support and teach about the theme of the chapter. This book is a good resource for someone that may be overwhelmed by reading the whole Bible but want to understand the basics of Christianity. Each chapter will focus on a main point and use verses and passages from different books in the Bible to support that point. I think that this book is a great resource for those looking to understand better what we believe with biblical evidence to why we believe it.

I recommend this book for anyone that is new to Christianity and even those who have been a Christian for years. It is a great reminder of why we believe what we believe.

The Dandelion Field By Kathryn Springer

The Dandelion Field By: Kathryn Springer

I will have to be honest and say that when I read the description I was intrigued but wasn’t still a little hesitant and not sure what I would think of the book. After reading the Dandelion Field I am glad my initial thoughts were proven wrong, Springer has an amazing way with words. This book reads like it is true to life, with main characters dealing with being a single mom, teenagers finding out that they are pregnant, and trust issues in general. The pain and hurt that the characters are going through is heart-wrenching and the depth in which the characters are written is amazing and not seen in as many books. This book is a must read! I can’t wait to read some of the other books written by Springer.

#FrostyVoxBox from @Influenster

I received the Influenster #FrostyVoxBox a while back and now that I have tested all the products I wanted to let you know what I received and what I thought of each!

Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover: I really like this product, makes removing eye make up quick and easy

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner: I have mixed feelings on this one, it is a rather clunky eyeliner and takes a lot of precision to apply but the look may be worth it to put in the extra practice.

NYC New York Color Expert Last Lip Color: LOVE this one! This is the perfect shade for everyday wear! It helps to make your lips stand out but not bring to much attention. Love this as a regular use color!

Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane Decaf Green Tea: Always have been a fan of Celestial Seasonings! This won’t ever change.

Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced: Clean and rejuvenating product

McCormick Gourmet All Natural Thyme: Some of my favorite seasonings come from this line!

Fruit Vines Bites Cherry: Delicious. Enough Said.

Eco Tools Styler and Smoother: Finally a hairbrush that I love that doesn’t break and leaves my hair looking healthy! Also cuts down drying time!

I received all these products complimentary through influenster in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Rimmel London from #FrostyVoxBox

Rimmel London Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner

I like the idea of this eyeliner, however, it takes a practiced hang to apply it, I struggled a bit with it, it is also hard to get off even when using the RImmell London Eyemake up remover. I think with a little more practice I will learn to like this eyeliner a lot more!

Rimmel London Eye Make-Up Remover

Absolutely LOVE this product! It cleans off eye make-up quick and simple. It doesn’t leave behind residue and doesn’t sting your eyes! This was definitely a favorite for me!

I received both of these products complimentary from Influenster in exchange for an honest review.

Nourished By: Becky Johnson and Rachel Randolph and a Giveaway!

About the book:

Order-loving, thirty-something Rachel, and her laid-back, messy mother, Becky, are opposites in many ways. But they both believe that women long for a life that nourishes them inside and out. In this book, the mother-daughter duo will help you make that dream a reality by tackling the “Top 10 Stressors” that mess with a woman’s mind, such as:

 •Cluttered Surroundings •Exhaustion of parenting

•Time-starved marriages •Feeling like a spiritual slacker

•Crowded Schedules •Negative Body Image

Following a series of trial-and-error experiments, Becky and Rachel share laugh-out-loud stories, fascinating research, and practical tips to design and a nourished life that fits your personality. By learning how to embrace “nourishing compromises,” you’ll never put happiness on hold again. If you are feeling drained, discontent, or discouraged, join a couple of understanding, entertaining companions on the journey from overwhelmed to nourished.

Sometimes you don’t realize how relevant a book is to your life until you read it. This book came at just the right time for me, being a little over a month into the new year we are at the point where we start giving up on those resolutions we made. Some of the big things that I have committed to do is decluttering my home/life, getting healthier and figuring out a schedule. Nourished tackles all that and more with practical advise through the stories of the authors and the process of each of them figuring out how to live a more nourished life.

Mother-Daughter authors have opened up their homes to readers and have shared the ups and downs of life and making steps to figure out what works and what needs changed. They give steps to help you along the way and encourage you to not take on a huge project all at one. Through this book you will learn about having a life that will nourish you from the inside out. I’ve absolutely loved this book and it has encouraged me and helps me to continue to re-evaluate my schedules, clutter and even body image to have a more fulfilled life!
