The final installment has arrived. Kenna and Vee have been separated. The people of Doon have been spread between Doon and Alloway, Doonians are missing and the Witch of Doon has taken over, and she has bigger plans to ruin Doon.

With the final story from the Doon series from Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon. Since the start of this series I have loved it, part of it may stem from my love of musical theatre and for Brigadoon in general but I love how two authors have come together to collaborate and create such a great series. With twists and turns at every page turn you wont be able to put this book down. Forever Doon continues the story of our favorite characters as they attempt to rescue Doon and bring some new characters along for the ride. I highly recommend this book.

The Beautiful Pretender By: Melanie Dickerson

The Beautiful Pretender By: Melanie Dickerson

I few years ago I was in search of something new to read, I knew what I liked but I wanted to find something new. I’ve always enjoyed fairy tales and the twists that people make when rewriting such well-known stories. Since reading Dickerson’s story I have always made a point to read anything new that is published from her. When I heard about the Beautiful Pretender I could not wait, partially because I love her writing and partially because anything in relation to Beauty and the Beast and I must read it.

The Beautiful Pretender is loosely based on Beauty and the Beast and the Princess and the Pea, and it is such a fun amazing story. It may be my favorite book of hers yet. It was such a fun captivating story and I love the lead characters. This book has everything and more, fairy tales, battles, spies, a fight for what’s right. I will always recommend that you should read Dickerson’s book, and I believe the Beautiful Pretender should make the top of your list.

The Bachelor Girls Guide to Murder

About the book:

The Bachelor Girl’s Guide to Murder (Harvest House, April 2016)

In 1910 Toronto, while other bachelor girls perfect their domestic skills and find husbands, two friends perfect their sleuthing skills and find a murderer.

Inspired by their fascination with all things Sherlock Holmes, best friends and flatmates Merinda and Jem launch a consulting detective business. The deaths of young Irish women lead Merinda and Jem deeper into the mire of the city’s underbelly, where the high hopes of those dreaming to make a new life in Canada are met with prejudice and squalor.

While searching for answers, donning disguises, and sneaking around where no proper ladies would ever go, they pair with Jasper Forth, a police constable, and Ray DeLuca, a reporter in whom Jem takes a more than professional interest. Merinda could well be Toronto’s premiere consulting detective, and Jem may just find a way to put her bachelor girlhood behind her forever—if they can stay alive long enough to do so.

The Bachelor Girls Guide to Murder By: Rachel McMillan

Are you a fan of mysteries? Witty banter? And a love of Sherlock and Sherlock-type stories? If so, Rachel McMillan’s debut novel is one you must check out! This historical mystery follows the two main characters, who according to society’s standards should be married and doing things that are more appropriate for ladies and not running their own private investigation agency.

McMillan has an amazing way with words that makes her books captivating and fun. Her cast of characters is diverse, with the two leads being reminiscent of Sherlock and Watson, they are polar opposites who compliment each other and go on quite the adventures through the streets of Toronto.

McMillan is definitely the new author to keep your eye out for!

Glimmer Girls By: Natalie Grant

Glimmer Girls:
London Art Chase and A Dolphin Wish

The Glimmer Girls series is an adorable series written by the singer Natalie Grant for young girls. The Glimmer Girls are three sisters that travel the world with their famous singer mother, Gloria Glimmer and their slightly off-kilter nanny Julia. Each book follows the girls on a new adventure. Through each adventure the girls learn valuable lessons about prayer, telling the truth, being a good friend and so much more.

This series is a great to add to any young girls reading collection, they are fun stories with valuable lessons, I highly recommend this series and they would make a great addition to any Easter basket.

From the author:
Glimmer Girls is a fiction series that I have created with my daughters.  The storyline is about three girls who go on tour with their singing mom.  I have no idea where I came up with that plot!  It’s fun for my little girls to help with the content because they actually live that life.  Glimmer is the last name of the family, but it also has a special meaning.  It is a light that is never extinguished.  Sometimes it may glimmer a little bit brighter, sometimes it may glimmer a little bit dimmer, but it never goes out.  I felt like that was such a perfect description for all of us.  We all have a light on the inside and depending on the day, sometimes it’s bright and sometimes it’s dim.  That is the message I wanted girls to get from this book.  You don’t always have to be shining bright, some days are going to be more difficult than others, but Jesus has put a light in you that will never go out.”

Coldshot by: Dani Pettrey

The long awaited second series from Dani Pettrey has arrived! The first book in the Chesapeake Valor Series is now available and Coldshot is a great start. With brand new characters, I’ve loved getting to know Griffin McCray and Finley Scott and hope to see them pop up in future books. The story is exciting and full of action and will keep you entertained.

I’ve always been a huge Dani Pettrey fan, however, ColdShot felt a bit too easy, things fell together and were easily figured out. This book has so much potential and I don’t believe it quite met expectations, I hoped that it would have gone just a bit deeper and the mystery to be a little more complex. That being said I still think it is worth the read, and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Review:
I’ve always enjoyed any book written by Terri Blackstock, and If I Run is no different. Blackstock has a way of writing that drags you right into the story and invests you in the lives of the characters. If I Run is one of those stories, captivating and full of action with a mystery that you will be second guessing yourself to the very end.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this story and cannot wait to see the characters return in the next book, the only thing that was a negative for me in this book was how easily things seemed to fall together. This book comes off as a bit too simple and easy with how quickly answers came together. Otherwise, I highly recommend this book, and cannot wait for the continuation of the story.

The Golden Braid By: Melanie Dickerson

There are some stories that transport you, to a new time, to a new place, all of Melanie Dickerson’s books have the ability to do just that and her latest, the Golden Braid is no different. The Golden Braid is a new twist on the classic story of Rapunzel.

I’ve always loved fairy tales, but you’ve never seen or read this version of Rapunzel before, I love how Dickerson is able to take a story we all know and turn it on its side to be come a new story that is still true to the heart of the original. Dickerson has also found a way to weave Christ into her stories. I highly recommend all of her books.

Shades of Doon By: Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon

Shades of Doon is the third book in the Doon Series, and if you enjoyed the first two, you will definitely enjoy this one. With adventure around every corner you will love the continuing adventures of Veronica and McKenna, and with this book you are transported between Doon and the real world.

I’ve always enjoyed the Doon series, with its mix of musical theatre references, scottish accents and a tale woven together by two different authors I am always left impressed. Corp and Langdon have come together to create a seamless story while still having their own voice throughout the story. If you are looking for a good read for your weekend, make sure this one is on your list.

Resist By: Tracy Lawson Now Available!

Q and A with the author
Can you give us a brief summary of Resist?
The second volume in the Resistance Series, Tommy and Careen are no longer naïve, frightened teenagers who believe the Office of Civilian Safety and Defense can protect them from terrorist attacks. They’ve discovered the OCSD’s miracle antidote’s true purpose: to create a population bereft of free will, incapable of defying the tyrannical OCSD. They join the Resistance, but on their first mission, things spin out of control and soon they’re on the run, dodging the quadrant marshals in a headlong dash for the Resistance’s secret headquarters. Being part of the Resistance presents them with new challenges. Not everyone working for change will prove trustworthy, and plans to spark revolution go awry with consequences greater than they could’ve imagined. Tommy and Careen’s relationship is tested when their philosophical differences and the pressures of interpersonal rivalries and jealousy put a strain on their romance. Can they make time for each other while trying to start a revolution?
What was the inspiration behind The Resistance Series?
I was mentoring a friend of my daughter’s when the initial idea for Counteract came about. Chase is a pretty sharp guy and an excellent writer—and when he was in high school I had a lot of fun working with him and editing some of his short stories. We had finished working on a story about baseball, a broken nose, and a broken heart, and were ready to start
something new, when he suggested we write scenes in response to the prompt: “What if everyone were on LSD and all thoughts were communal?” It was certainly thought provoking! Chase created the characters Tommy and Eduardo, I created Careen, and rightaway, we knew we were onto something. Obviously, the story morphed and changed a lot
before it became the finished version of Counteract—but that was how it all began.
What do you enjoy about this series that cannot be found in any of your other books?
The Resistance Series is my first published fiction. My other book, Fips, Bots, Doggeries, and More, is based on a journal kept by my great-great-great grandfather during his family’s 1838 horse and wagon trip from Cincinnati to New York City. I did a ton of research before writing that book, and amassed two filing cabinet drawers full of information related to the 22=-page journal! During the publication process, I nearly went crazy double-checking all my facts and citations, and by the time the book went to print, I never wanted to see another footnote. Fiction? Yes, please!
Now that I’ve had a little break from footnotes, I’m enjoying writing another nonfiction history book. I’m planning to merge my two favorite genres and write some YA historical fiction sometime after I finish the Resistance Series.
The main characters in The Resistance Series are Tommy and Careen. Where did you find
your inspiration for them?
My characters are a little bit of me, and little bits of people around me, but as I spend time with them in the context of the story, they become less like people in the real world; I don’t stop developing them until they are individuals: unique and unlike anyone else. Chase created Tommy, and at first I wasn’t as close to him as I was Careen. That changed as I wrote more scenes for Tommy—especially the scene when he and Careen meet. His reactions and his choices came from inside me; before long, he was unique and independent of any outside influence.
