Irene Hannon has crafted a story that will keep you glued to the edge of your seat. Deceived, book 3 in the Private Justice book is the latest from Hannon and she has not disappointed. Hannon has created some amazing characters and has brought back some that we are familiar with in the latest story.

Three years later she has relocated to a new city, has a new job and is moving on with her life, however, one stop at the mall changes everything when she sees a little boy that looks just like her son that she believed to be dead. She can’t get over the feeling that the little boy is her little boy. Firstborn By: Lorie Ann Grover

Firstborn is a story you have not read before, the concept of a civilization that does not allow female firstborns and the only way they will live is to be declared male. Firstborn is an interesting take on the Young Adult Dystopian genre. Tia, born a female, is living the life of a male, preparing to do her part to help guard her city. She will be the first declared male to do so. As Tia struggles to fit in and do the job necessary she comes to realize that she can’t do what she knows to be right and at the same time is fighting getting old as a female declared male.

This was an interesting story that I had high hopes for, I really struggled through a good part of it because I felt a lot of things weren’t explained and sometimes completely ignored. Other times I felt the story was dragging on one end and rushing on the other. Some events that were thought to be significant go on like it was just a moment and not that important at all. I hope that a lot is clarified in the next book.

Luminary By: @KristaMcGeeYA

Thalli is back in the second book in the Anomaly trilogy and the Scientists are still on her trail. After finding their way to the surface Thalli, Berk, Rhen and John find themselves on a 900 mile trek across what used to be the United States. After long days filled with dust and attacks from animals they had only seen on screens the group finally makes it to the town of New Hope, where Thalli learns the truth of what happened to the world. With so many questions Thalli is not sure what to believe. With violence from the nearby town of Athens threatening New Hope, Thalli volunteers to go on a peace seeking mission to find a way for the towns to work together. From everything she has heard of about Athens she expects to find a town of ruthless people but instead finds Prince Alex who is kind and a city in need of help. With the stories of the Designer that John has told her Thalli finds herself searching for answers and the truth but her time is running short because the State is closing in on the group.

Krista McGee never fails to impress and continues the Anomaly Trilogy  with a captivating story of hope! This story will surprise you from beginning to end, with twists and turns around every corner and new characters you will love. McGee keeps you guessing all the way through. This trilogy will be the next big dystopian book! The only negative is having to wait until July for the conclusion! I absolutely loved this book!

Doon By @LorieLangdon and @careycorp

I have always loved the story of Brigadoon, the idea of a mysterious land appearing out of the mists every one hundred years. It was no surprise that I loved the fantastic story that transports you back into a fairytale with a modern twist. Veronica and Mackenna are excited to spend their vacation in Scotland at the cottage that Mackenna inherited from her Aunt Gracie. Before Veronica has even left the states she sees a boy in a kilt who continues to call out to her and makes her wonder if something awaits her in Scotland.

Once in Scotland Veronica and Mackenna find themselves in Doon, where the legend of Brigadoon comes to life, the only problem is the gates weren’t supposed to open yet and the people of Doon believe the girls to be witches as strange things begin to happen with people disappearing, and an evil entering into the Kingdom. While in Doon Veronica finds her mystery boy, however, he seems to dislike her. With two weeks until the bridge reopens so that Veronica and Mackenna are able to leave Doon, Veronica begins to wonder if their appearance and the evil that has entered the land is some how linked to them.

This book captivated my attention from the start and had me humming ‘once in the highlands’ through the whole book. With vivid imagery that brings you to old Scotland, I was unable to put this book down and was captured by the entire story of Doon and its’ people. Both authors did an amazing job compiling the story so that it melded beautifully and created an adventure that will keep you glued to the pages. The only thing that was a negative for me was I was surprised by certain scenes being included since this book was written under a Christian publisher, but the story was great and I cannot wait to see how it continues.

Pirates on the Farm

Pirates on the Farm By: Denette Fretz Illustrated By: Gene Barretta

The Sanders family were never very adventurous. Than one day 5 bad-mannered pirates move into their small town to the farm across the street. From their interesting food choices and their behavior  the Sanders family are in for a new adventure. Not quite sure how to deal with the pirates Mrs. Sanders begins to save money to move away from the pirates, however, her husband has something else in mind and shows the pirates how to become farmers and invites them to church and dinner.

Pirates are never expected to be found on a farm but this cute story teaches the importance of reaching out to your neighbors and not judging them on how they appear. The things they do not know may simply mean that no one has ever shown them. Pirates on the Farm is a great children’s story that shows how much simple acts of kindness can go a long way with your neighbors and in the end you may end up learning something yourself.

This book is filled with beautiful, descriptive illustrations that will make you laugh at the antics of the pirates but will also teach you and your children a valuable lesson about loving your neighbors.

Forgiveness: Overcoming the Impossible By: @Matthew_West

Forgiveness, it’s such a simple word but encompasses so much, many times we are told to ‘forgive and forget’ but it is never that easy, and because of that not forgiving others actually causes more harm to us.

A few years back, Christian music artist, Matthew West, was on a mission to discover the stories of the lives of ordinary people. What happened was incredible as he received over twenty thousand beautiful stories of everyday people. Through these stories West learned that forgiveness was unavoidable and an essential part of life that could bring peace and fulfillment.

Forgiveness can define who we are as a person, it can mean the difference between brokenness and healing, joy and peace. Through all of the stories West realized there were four very important questions that needed answered

1. Is there someone in my life I need to forgive?

2. Is there someone I have wronged and need to ask to forgive me?

3. Have I forgiven myself for mistakes I’ve made in my past?

4. Have I embraced my need of the forgiveness God offers to me?

Through this book Matthew West has compiled a list of stories about forgiveness that will touch your heart but will also move you to realize the story of forgiveness in your lives. Each story will cover different topics from forgiving others, forgiving yourself, asking for forgiveness and embracing God’s forgiveness.

This book will help you to understand how the power of forgiveness can affect someone’s life and show you that although it is difficult, and everything in you may be screaming not to forgive someone for the hurt they have caused, that the only way to find peace and joy is to give forgiveness and accept it from others.

This is a powerful book that will have you examining who in your life you need to forgive or whose forgiveness you may need to accept. You will be moved with the many stories of real people and what they have gone through. This is not necessarily a book you can read straight through, but is a great reminder that when you are struggling to forgive someone you can turn to any of these stories and be reminded of the power of forgiveness.

Overextended and loving most of it By: Lisa Harper

Overextended…and loving most of it! By: Lisa Harper

We’ve all been there, the days where we feel so wrung out but still have more to get done. The days where the bad feels like it outweighs the good. We understand that life is busy and some things in life come hurtling at us and we have no control and no way to prepare for the outcome. Lisa Harper’s latest book, Overextended is just about those days. However, this book is not another how-to book on how to handle what life throws at you or another story of someone who has it all together.

In Overextended Lisa Harper has taken a huge step in being transparent in the trials she has faced during one of the most trying times she has gone through, Lisa takes you through her journey of adoption, sick family members and surviving and finding the joy in the little moments when we feel ready to jump. Lisa reminds us that God isn’t expecting us to show up looking perfect but instead

“I think this is what we’re supposed to look like when we stand before Jesus. I don’t think we’re supposed to show up in glory with time to spare, a fresh manicure, and perfect hair. I think if we’re really living the gospel, we’re going to fall at His feet exhausted and messy, with mismatched socks, just plumb worn out from loving people as hard as we can!”

I really enjoyed this book and the transparency that Lisa was willing to share with us, especially when we see her, or other speakers and authors in person and sometimes feel like these people have it all together and that everything seems to go there way, through Lisa’s story we see and understand that she has struggled with the same things we do, from failed adoptions to losing loved ones, that even though life gets overwhelming we can still learn to enjoy most of it!

Draw the Circle: The 40 Day Prayer Challenge

There are many books out that are about prayers, how to pray, when to pray, what words do you say, the structure of a prayer, for something that is essentially a conversation between yourself and God it can easily become confusing.

Draw the Circle: The 4- Day Prayer Challenge is not like any other prayer book your have read, this book is not about how to pray, it is a challenge to have a bolder, more passionate and deeper prayer life with our creator. Each day is a short chapter focusing on one thing that will aid in creating a stronger and more powerful prayer life, the chapters range from topics of not delaying, preparing for your prayer to be answered, the benefits of journaling each day and writing your prayers down so that you can see how they are answered in the future. Each chapter is full of scripture and stories to support the theme in the chapter and is finished with a short sentence that sums up the chapter and is a way to help motivate you and remind you that we can pray bold prayers.

One of my favorite sections in this book was on day 7 about when the Israelites were at the Jordan preparing to cross, the people didn’t stand on the shore waiting for the waters to part they had to get into the water, take a step in faith and believing that God would get them through before they were able to walk on dry land across the Jordan.

This book will no doubt change your prayer life for the better, you will be challenged and begin to pray and declare stronger, bolder prayers and will find a more intimate relationship with God.

Broken Wings by Shannon Dittemore

Broken Wings By Shannon Dittemore

Broken Wings is the second book in the Angel Eyes Trilogy, picking up a short time after where Angel Eyes left off Dittemore does not disappoint in the second book of the trilogy.  After everything Elle has been through in the past she is starting to move on after Ali’s death, her and Jake are growing closer and Elle dreams of the day when there will be a ring on her finger. As Elle grows closer to Jake and Canaan; however, Elle’s dad seems to be getting more disagreeable and is drinking more than ever before.

Something is going on, something that is keeping Canaan away more than usual. The sabre have gathered and there are whispers of movement on both ends. One of the Sabre makes a move so that Elle may learn the truth and learns something that has been kept from her about her mothers past, between that, her fathers drinking and the fear she sees and Jake that she does not understand things are getting tough. The halo used to keep the nightmares away but now Elle can hardly sleep through the night, Elle is beginning to see the celestial without the halo and she thinks she may have seen Damien in town and now with the halo having gone missing there is no telling what may happen. Jake and Elle have been targeted by evil and a battle is coming, what will happen if darkness is able to get what they are after? Will good be able to conquer evil, or will evil win and take Elle and Jake with it?

Dittemore has once again pulled you into the pages of the story with characters you will love. She has a way of writing where the words come off the pages and will have you laughing, crying and on the edge of your seat through the entire book. Dittemore’s descriptions of what the celestial and what worship look like will have you dreaming of heaven . You will not want to put this book down, the only problem is you will have to wait for the next book to be released!
