All Things Bright and Beautiful By: Cecil Frances Alexander

All Things Bright and Beautiful
Written By: Cecil Frances Alexander
Illustrated By: Katy Hudson

All Things Bright and Beautiful is an absolutely gorgeous children’s book written by Cecil Francis Alexander. Illustrator Katy Hudson has taken the words of this popular hymn and created a beautiful collection of images that show kids how God’s touch is everywhere and how everything he has created everything beautifully from the forests and the seasons to each of us. I cannot get enough of the detail and vibrancy of every page. With beautiful colors, kids will enjoy the words and images over and over again. I highly recommend this book for anyone’s collection.

The Beautiful Pretender By: Melanie Dickerson

The Beautiful Pretender By: Melanie Dickerson

I few years ago I was in search of something new to read, I knew what I liked but I wanted to find something new. I’ve always enjoyed fairy tales and the twists that people make when rewriting such well-known stories. Since reading Dickerson’s story I have always made a point to read anything new that is published from her. When I heard about the Beautiful Pretender I could not wait, partially because I love her writing and partially because anything in relation to Beauty and the Beast and I must read it.

The Beautiful Pretender is loosely based on Beauty and the Beast and the Princess and the Pea, and it is such a fun amazing story. It may be my favorite book of hers yet. It was such a fun captivating story and I love the lead characters. This book has everything and more, fairy tales, battles, spies, a fight for what’s right. I will always recommend that you should read Dickerson’s book, and I believe the Beautiful Pretender should make the top of your list.

The Bachelor Girls Guide to Murder

About the book:

The Bachelor Girl’s Guide to Murder (Harvest House, April 2016)

In 1910 Toronto, while other bachelor girls perfect their domestic skills and find husbands, two friends perfect their sleuthing skills and find a murderer.

Inspired by their fascination with all things Sherlock Holmes, best friends and flatmates Merinda and Jem launch a consulting detective business. The deaths of young Irish women lead Merinda and Jem deeper into the mire of the city’s underbelly, where the high hopes of those dreaming to make a new life in Canada are met with prejudice and squalor.

While searching for answers, donning disguises, and sneaking around where no proper ladies would ever go, they pair with Jasper Forth, a police constable, and Ray DeLuca, a reporter in whom Jem takes a more than professional interest. Merinda could well be Toronto’s premiere consulting detective, and Jem may just find a way to put her bachelor girlhood behind her forever—if they can stay alive long enough to do so.

About the author:

Rachel lives in bustling Toronto, where she works in educational publishing and pursues her passion for art, literature, music, and theater.

The Bachelor Girls Guide to Murder By: Rachel McMillan

Are you a fan of mysteries? Witty banter? And a love of Sherlock and Sherlock-type stories? If so, Rachel McMillan’s debut novel is one you must check out! This historical mystery follows the two main characters, who according to society’s standards should be married and doing things that are more appropriate for ladies and not running their own private investigation agency.

McMillan has an amazing way with words that makes her books captivating and fun. Her cast of characters is diverse, with the two leads being reminiscent of Sherlock and Watson, they are polar opposites who compliment each other and go on quite the adventures through the streets of Toronto.

McMillan is definitely the new author to keep your eye out for!

The Golden Braid By: Melanie Dickerson

There are some stories that transport you, to a new time, to a new place, all of Melanie Dickerson’s books have the ability to do just that and her latest, the Golden Braid is no different. The Golden Braid is a new twist on the classic story of Rapunzel.

I’ve always loved fairy tales, but you’ve never seen or read this version of Rapunzel before, I love how Dickerson is able to take a story we all know and turn it on its side to be come a new story that is still true to the heart of the original. Dickerson has also found a way to weave Christ into her stories. I highly recommend all of her books.

{My Review}

The Finishing School: How one book nerd began living what she learned, as a self-proclaimed book nerd, I was sold at the title of this book, so many times I’ve read books with the belief that reading this will help me, will challenge me, will change me, and after I’ve read each book, although I’ve learned some valuable things and understand how to get there, implementing them has not always been easy. So many times we feel stuck in a rut, not sure where we are going and search for help and guidance, if your like me that comes in the form of a book and The Finishing School is the perfect place to start. Not only does Woerner help to show how to identify areas of your life that may need work, and the areas that should be scheduled and put to routine she gives sound advice and recommends books that will aid in that area. At the end of each chapter she provides a list of tasks and resources that are attainable to help you make the changes you need and desire.

Each chapter is a guide to help you with a part of your life from prayer, Bible study, distractions, joy, balance, influence, and peace with many more, there is a chapter for everyone, although some you may be good on others will speak to you and help you continue to find the you that God created you to be.

I’ve absolutely enjoyed this book, I read through it pretty quick and plan to slow down and really go through the book. I think that The Finishing School is a great tool and guide to help you start doing the things you’ve always wanted to. I highly recommend this book (as well as many of the books that Woerner recommends throughout each chapter). This is great for everyone who wants to start putting their goals into actions.

The Wonder of You By: Susan May Warren

The Wonder of You By: Susan May Warren

Amelia has returned from her adventures in Europe feeling like she has failed, that she is not doing what she is supposed to do. The guy she’s known all her life is ready to settle down with her in Deep Haven, while Roark, the boy she met in Prague hs traveled across the world to Deep Haven to find her. Now Amelia has to decide if she is meant to live in Deep Haven and settle down or if God is calling her to something bigger, to something more.

My reviews for the Christiansen Family Novels contine to read the same, there is nothing more that I can do than rave about how much I love these novels, about how much I love the writing of Susan May Warren, her characters feel so real and deal with things we each deal with on a regular basis. The Christiansen’s will feel like friends and inspire and challenge you with following your heart and what God has planned for each of us.

I cannot say enough good things about Susan May Warren and these books, the only negative is that there is only one book left for Christiansen kids and I am not sure if I am ready to say goodbye to these characters.

Falcon By: @RonieKendig

Falcon By: Ronie Kendig

Falcon is book 3 in the Quiet Professionals series, as a forewarning, make sure to read the first two Raptor 6 and Hawk before reading Falcon. I promise you won’t want to put any of them down. Kendig has always had an amazing way of weaving a story and Falcon will not disappoint. In this third and final installment we finally get to find out who is responsible for the attacks on the team.

This book will take you on quite a journey, you will not want to put it down. This book is amazing from start to finish! Put this at the top of your reading list (Or third if you haven’t read the others). This is not a series you will want to miss!

The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest By: Melanie Dickerson

The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest By: Melanie Dickerson

It’s safe to say, that if you know anything about me it’s that I love fairy tales and I loved Robin Hood (I’m watching the BBC Robin Hood series as I write this on Netflix, if you haven’t seen it be sure to add it to your list!) Needless to say when Melanie Dickerson released her latest story based on Robin Hood I knew I was going to love it. Not only that but the character of Robin Hood is a girl. (I always love a strong female character who can hold her own!)

In the Huntress of Thornbeck Forest, Odette cannot help but see the need of the poor children in the village, without enough food to live she decides to do what she can, however illegal it is. Odette chooses to take her hunting skills onto the Kings grounds to poach animals at night to give to those in need for food. Odette meets Jorgen who wants to help her care for the poor, however, Jorgen is the margraves forester is on her trail and he will stop at any cost to stop the poacher.

This may be my favorite story from Dickerson yet, I couldn’t put it down. This is one to add to the reading pile (as well as all of her other books!)
