The final installment has arrived. Kenna and Vee have been separated. The people of Doon have been spread between Doon and Alloway, Doonians are missing and the Witch of Doon has taken over, and she has bigger plans to ruin Doon.

With the final story from the Doon series from Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon. Since the start of this series I have loved it, part of it may stem from my love of musical theatre and for Brigadoon in general but I love how two authors have come together to collaborate and create such a great series. With twists and turns at every page turn you wont be able to put this book down. Forever Doon continues the story of our favorite characters as they attempt to rescue Doon and bring some new characters along for the ride. I highly recommend this book.

Unashamed by: Christine Caine

Shame, we have all experienced it, it comes into our lives without being invited, it binds us, and creates a power over us. Through this book, Caine takes us on her personal journey of finding freedom and breaking through the shame. Unashamed is a phenomenal book that uses the Bible to affirm that we were called to live in freedom and not in shame.

Unashamed is a book full of truth and will be a life changer, through each chapter you will understand how shame can effect you and how to overcome it and live the life you were called to. For anyone that feels they are living a life of shame, and looking for a way to break free, this book will show you that it is possible to live unashamed.

The Beautiful Pretender By: Melanie Dickerson

The Beautiful Pretender By: Melanie Dickerson

I few years ago I was in search of something new to read, I knew what I liked but I wanted to find something new. I’ve always enjoyed fairy tales and the twists that people make when rewriting such well-known stories. Since reading Dickerson’s story I have always made a point to read anything new that is published from her. When I heard about the Beautiful Pretender I could not wait, partially because I love her writing and partially because anything in relation to Beauty and the Beast and I must read it.

The Beautiful Pretender is loosely based on Beauty and the Beast and the Princess and the Pea, and it is such a fun amazing story. It may be my favorite book of hers yet. It was such a fun captivating story and I love the lead characters. This book has everything and more, fairy tales, battles, spies, a fight for what’s right. I will always recommend that you should read Dickerson’s book, and I believe the Beautiful Pretender should make the top of your list.

The Bachelor Girls Guide to Murder

About the book:

The Bachelor Girl’s Guide to Murder (Harvest House, April 2016)

In 1910 Toronto, while other bachelor girls perfect their domestic skills and find husbands, two friends perfect their sleuthing skills and find a murderer.

Inspired by their fascination with all things Sherlock Holmes, best friends and flatmates Merinda and Jem launch a consulting detective business. The deaths of young Irish women lead Merinda and Jem deeper into the mire of the city’s underbelly, where the high hopes of those dreaming to make a new life in Canada are met with prejudice and squalor.

While searching for answers, donning disguises, and sneaking around where no proper ladies would ever go, they pair with Jasper Forth, a police constable, and Ray DeLuca, a reporter in whom Jem takes a more than professional interest. Merinda could well be Toronto’s premiere consulting detective, and Jem may just find a way to put her bachelor girlhood behind her forever—if they can stay alive long enough to do so.

The Bachelor Girls Guide to Murder By: Rachel McMillan

Are you a fan of mysteries? Witty banter? And a love of Sherlock and Sherlock-type stories? If so, Rachel McMillan’s debut novel is one you must check out! This historical mystery follows the two main characters, who according to society’s standards should be married and doing things that are more appropriate for ladies and not running their own private investigation agency.

McMillan has an amazing way with words that makes her books captivating and fun. Her cast of characters is diverse, with the two leads being reminiscent of Sherlock and Watson, they are polar opposites who compliment each other and go on quite the adventures through the streets of Toronto.

McMillan is definitely the new author to keep your eye out for!

Coldshot by: Dani Pettrey

The long awaited second series from Dani Pettrey has arrived! The first book in the Chesapeake Valor Series is now available and Coldshot is a great start. With brand new characters, I’ve loved getting to know Griffin McCray and Finley Scott and hope to see them pop up in future books. The story is exciting and full of action and will keep you entertained.

I’ve always been a huge Dani Pettrey fan, however, ColdShot felt a bit too easy, things fell together and were easily figured out. This book has so much potential and I don’t believe it quite met expectations, I hoped that it would have gone just a bit deeper and the mystery to be a little more complex. That being said I still think it is worth the read, and I look forward to the next book in the series.

The Golden Braid By: Melanie Dickerson

There are some stories that transport you, to a new time, to a new place, all of Melanie Dickerson’s books have the ability to do just that and her latest, the Golden Braid is no different. The Golden Braid is a new twist on the classic story of Rapunzel.

I’ve always loved fairy tales, but you’ve never seen or read this version of Rapunzel before, I love how Dickerson is able to take a story we all know and turn it on its side to be come a new story that is still true to the heart of the original. Dickerson has also found a way to weave Christ into her stories. I highly recommend all of her books.

Shades of Doon By: Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon

Shades of Doon is the third book in the Doon Series, and if you enjoyed the first two, you will definitely enjoy this one. With adventure around every corner you will love the continuing adventures of Veronica and McKenna, and with this book you are transported between Doon and the real world.

I’ve always enjoyed the Doon series, with its mix of musical theatre references, scottish accents and a tale woven together by two different authors I am always left impressed. Corp and Langdon have come together to create a seamless story while still having their own voice throughout the story. If you are looking for a good read for your weekend, make sure this one is on your list.

The Methuselah Project By: Rick Barry

THE METHUSELAH PROJECT BY RICK BARRY

Methuselah Project

Roger Greene has always believed he was born to fly, which is why he became a fighter pilot during World War II. When he is shot down in enemy territory but survives the crash, he believes that he will end up at the POW camp. Instead, with 6 other POWs, Roger is sent to a facility where he is experimented on. Seventy years later Roger hasn’t aged at all and escapes into 2015 where he meets Katherine Mueller, who offers to help him find his way, but Roger isn’t sure he can convince her of his story.

This story isn’t one you have heard before, it echoes some ideas from recent movies and themes but holds up on its own. An action packed story that once you get into it you will not want to put down. Barry has done well with mixing genres that compliment each other throughout this book, from historical to science fiction whichever type of book you may prefer venture out and embrace The Methuselah Project, you will not regret it.

{My Review}

The Finishing School: How one book nerd began living what she learned, as a self-proclaimed book nerd, I was sold at the title of this book, so many times I’ve read books with the belief that reading this will help me, will challenge me, will change me, and after I’ve read each book, although I’ve learned some valuable things and understand how to get there, implementing them has not always been easy. So many times we feel stuck in a rut, not sure where we are going and search for help and guidance, if your like me that comes in the form of a book and The Finishing School is the perfect place to start. Not only does Woerner help to show how to identify areas of your life that may need work, and the areas that should be scheduled and put to routine she gives sound advice and recommends books that will aid in that area. At the end of each chapter she provides a list of tasks and resources that are attainable to help you make the changes you need and desire.

Each chapter is a guide to help you with a part of your life from prayer, Bible study, distractions, joy, balance, influence, and peace with many more, there is a chapter for everyone, although some you may be good on others will speak to you and help you continue to find the you that God created you to be.

I’ve absolutely enjoyed this book, I read through it pretty quick and plan to slow down and really go through the book. I think that The Finishing School is a great tool and guide to help you start doing the things you’ve always wanted to. I highly recommend this book (as well as many of the books that Woerner recommends throughout each chapter). This is great for everyone who wants to start putting their goals into actions.
