Enter the COLD SHOT Sweepstakes from Author Dani Pettrey

In COLD SHOT, the first book of author Dani Pettrey’s brand new Chesapeake Valor series, park ranger Griffin McCray and forensic anthropologist Finley Scott uncover buried remains near the Civil War battleground of Little Round Top. There’s only one problem: the bones aren’t Civil War-era.

Griffin just wants the case to go away, but when Finley discovers evidence pointing to the work of an expert sniper, the case connects them with FBI agent Declan Grey, and crime scene investigator Parker Mitchell, friends from a past Griffin’s tried to leave behind.

Soon the reunited friends realize they’ll need to confront the darkest days in their shared history if they–and those they care about–are going to escape a downward spiral of crime, danger, and murder.

Sabotaged - Alaskan Courage Book 5 - by Dani Pettrey

Sabotaged By: Dani Pettrey

It has arrived. It is a bittersweet moment for me, the final book in the Alaskan Courage series. Throughout these five books the McKenna’s have become my friends, they have become a book series I will re-read over and over. However, even with it being the end of the series, it did not keep me from devouring this book from the very start! Sabotaged may be one of my favorites of the set (However, I really am partial to Kayden’s story in Silenced). Pettrey has continued to impress with each book, with twists and turns you never know quite what you are getting into.

Reef’s story is no different, although through him and Kirra I believe that Dani has reached another level with her characters. I loved the characters of the previous book but there is something about Kirra and Reef that is very human and authentic. The problems they face on a personal and emotional level and you can connect with their struggles and inner turmoil of figuring how to navigate a new relationship with the baggage of someone’s past and working on moving on while embracing what God has planned for you.

I can never say enough good things about the Alaskan Courage series and I highly recommend all of them. Just a warning, once you start you won’t want to put them down, so you may want to purchase them all at once!

Molly Lovelace has grown up with the knowledge that she would be marrying someone for her families convenience, someone that would be able to contribute to her family and give them financial stability, someone that would bring Molly into society. Always with the latest fashion trends and never with a hair out of place Molly knows what her family expects, what they don’t expect is Bailey Garner. Bailey who is constantly switching jobs, with barely a dime to his name has captured Molly’s heart. lifelong friends and have recently become much more, Bailey attempts to keep his distance from Molly in an effort to gain the things that would gain her families approval and give Molly the life she expects.

However, Edward has a few secrets of his own that cause Molly to return to a town where she is no longer accepted and scorned for what has happened.

Regina Jennings has created such strong characters that you cannot help but love the story as you watch Bailey and Molly’s transformation and growth throughout the book.  Jennings has such a vivid writing style that you can imagine the town and people and you feel as if you are a member of the community. Jennings has written a captivating story about truth and love and acceptance and how many times the people that we least expect will teach us the most valuable lessons.

A life changing journey into the heart of God

A Woman’s guide to reading the Bible in a year: a life-changing journey into the heart of God By: Diane Stortz

How many times have we told ourselves that we were going to read the entire Bible in a year? To the point of printing out reading schedules, dutifully checking off each days reading plan, and than you get to the book of Leviticus or halfway through Numbers and find your motivation waning. In this book Stortz helps to guide us and encourages each of us to read the Bible with a small group, although she says that you can do it individually Stortz explains that when reading the Bible with a group provides accountability as well as a place to grow.

Each section provides a reading plan for the week, a general synopsis, as well as things to look for as you read as well as talking points to discuss each week. This is a great book for those who are looking to read the entire for the first time, or for the person who is reading it for the fiftieth time.

Firefly Island By: Lisa Wingate | Enter to win an iPad Mini and RSVP for Facebook Party!

Mallory Hale and Webster have had a whirlwind romance, after a month of dating, Mallory finds herself married, and all of a sudden mother to Daniel’s son Nick. With a new job in site Daniel moves his family to a small Texas town to work for the well-known Jack West. Mallory has heard about Jack West, and her first impressions are not good ones, hearing stories of how his wife and step-son disappeared years ago has put her on edge, and with Jack’s rules and keeping Daniel busy at all hours Mallory feels like she is in over her head.

Something is happening on Firefly Island. At night there are lights moving around the mysterious little island in Texas, but there is only one problem. No one is allowed on Firefly Island. Jack West has forbidden it, and closed off the entrance.

Lisa Wingate has crafted a rollercoaster of a story keeping you guessing with each turn of the page. She creates characters that allows you to get into their minds, and as soon as you think you have figured out the mystery she throws you for another loop and has you doubting your initial guesses.

I enjoyed all the various characters in this book and quickly found myself engulfed in the story, Wingate has a gift of creating characters that you want to get to know, the town of Moses Lake has such interesting characters that you cannot get enough of. The only downside of Firefly Island is that the ending happened and was resolved so quickly, I wish it had been drawn out more. That aside Firefly Island was a great book that needs added to your reading list!

The Breath of Dawn By Kristen Heitzmann

The Breath of Dawn

Be prepared to not want to put this book down. The Breath of Dawn is the first book I have read from author Kristen Heitzmann and it does not disappoint. I have found that the books I am unsure about are the ones I end up staying up way past my bedtime reading.

Heitzmann has created two main character who do not find themselves in the position of a stereotypical suspense/romance novel. In most novels one character finds them in a situation where they need rescued, from a  person, themselves, their past, or many other things. However, Heitzmanns’ characters of Morgan Spencer and Quinn Reilly are both characters with a strong will, but both of them need rescued.

Morgan Spencer has suffered devastation in his life, his 2-year-old daughter, Livie, is the only thing that gets him through his day. On the other hand Quinn Reilly made a choice four years that put a man behind bars and a  threat on her life, now living under the radar, she lives in a world where she is always prepared to run, to not get too close to others. Morgan and Quinn quickly find their lives intertwining through circumstances, but it may just be what each of them needs to find themselves and both to start living again.

Heitzmann has created a story that will captivate you and keep you turning until the very last page. Her characters are strong and complex but also relate-able and fragile that you will connect to their stories. This book is hard to put into only one genre, Heitzmann is an amazing writer that can write across genres in one book from romance to suspense to mystery this book has it all.

If you are a fan of Dee Henderson, Lynette Eason and Dani Pettrey be sure to add Kristen Heitzmann to your list of must read authors!

Inescapable By: Nancy Mehl

Inescapable By: Nancy Mehl

“When we find our destiny, it gives us confidence…but not in ourselves-it is in God, who puts us where we are supposed to be and gives us what we need to succeed.”

Lizzie Engel has run away from everything. From the home she once knew, the people she loved, and she has continued to run but now with the threat of a stalker that the police can’t do anything about and being framed for stealing money from her previous employer, to protect her daughter she finds herself running again. Although this time, it is to the one place she never expected to run back to. Back to her Mennonite roots, to her childhood home. Kingdom, Kansas is more than off the beaten path and you wouldn’t be able to find it unless you knew it was there. Now with the threat to her and her daughter Lizzie heads back to a place she felt rejected her in the past as well as a strict father and a town that did not support her.

Lizzie has come face to face with her past and realized that maybe she got it wrong, that maybe the town was not all against her and that things were changing in Kingdom, she has a place to live and a job she has realized she loves but the threats have started showing up again and whoever was after her has found her in Kingdom.

Nancy Mehl will have you glued to the pages from beginning to end. You will find yourself relating to Lizzie’s character and how we all make the mistake of jumping to conclusions and only seeing the worst in each situation. I’ve never read any Amish  or Mennonite fiction in the past but with Mehl’s writing I am sure to add more to my reading list.
