Coldshot by: Dani Pettrey

The long awaited second series from Dani Pettrey has arrived! The first book in the Chesapeake Valor Series is now available and Coldshot is a great start. With brand new characters, I’ve loved getting to know Griffin McCray and Finley Scott and hope to see them pop up in future books. The story is exciting and full of action and will keep you entertained.

I’ve always been a huge Dani Pettrey fan, however, ColdShot felt a bit too easy, things fell together and were easily figured out. This book has so much potential and I don’t believe it quite met expectations, I hoped that it would have gone just a bit deeper and the mystery to be a little more complex. That being said I still think it is worth the read, and I look forward to the next book in the series.

From the Start By: @Melissa_Tagg

Let me take a moment to gush over how much I enjoyed this book! I’ve read all of Tagg’s book and so far this may be my favorite! With each book Tagg has gotten better, she is an author you will want to keep your eye on! From the Start is about former football star Colton Greene and screen-play writer Kate Walker. When a tornado hits Kate’s hometown in Iowa she returns to help out and figure out her next steps. With a career ending injury and no direction Colton’s friend asks him to help out in his hometown for a few months.

Colton and Kate’s story is adorable and full of laughter as they figure out what their next steps are as individuals and help each other to move forward. This is the perfect book to take outside, kick up your feet and not return until the last page. By the time you finish this book you will feel like you personally know these characters and will be ready to move to a little town in Iowa! I cannot wait to see what is next for this author.

About the Author

Dani Pettrey is a wife, home-schooling mom, and the acclaimed author of the romantic suspense series Alaskan Courage, which includes her bestselling novels Submerged, Shattered, Stranded, Silenced, and her latest release,Sabotaged. She feels blessed to write inspirational romantic suspense because it incorporates so many things she loves–the thrill of adventure, nail biting suspense, the deepening of her characters’ faith, and plenty of romance. She and her husband reside in Maryland, where they enjoy time with their daughters, son-in-law, and super-adorable grandson.

My Review:

It has arrived. It is a bittersweet moment for me, the final book in the Alaskan Courage series. Throughout these five books the McKenna’s have become my friends, they have become a book series I will re-read over and over. However, even with it being the end of the series, it did not keep me from devouring this book from the very start! Sabotaged may be one of my favorites of the set (However, I really am partial to Kayden’s story in Silenced). Pettrey has continued to impress with each book, with twists and turns you never know quite what you are getting into.

Reef’s story is no different, although through him and Kirra I believe that Dani has reached another level with her characters. I loved the characters of the previous book but there is something about Kirra and Reef that is very human and authentic. The problems they face on a personal and emotional level and you can connect with their struggles and inner turmoil of figuring how to navigate a new relationship with the baggage of someone’s past and working on moving on while embracing what God has planned for you.

I can never say enough good things about the Alaskan Courage series and I highly recommend all of them. Just a warning, once you start you won’t want to put them down, so you may want to purchase them all at once!

Undetected By: Dee Henderson

Dee Henderson’s latest book Undetected is a great story! If you are a fan of the O’Malley Series or Uncommon Hero Series this book is reminiscent of those but goes a little deeper with the characters and story line. Henderson very obviously has done her research, you won’t just finish this book knowing you’ve read something fantastic but also with more knowledge about submarines and sonar.

Many people have read Henderson’s latest books hoping it is a repeat of the O’Malley Series, Undetected echoes the quality of the books but also shares the years of experience and growth that Henderson has made in her writing and shows her depth and commitment to research and making sure each story is accurate.

Although her stories have changed I love seeing a writer grow and develop her stories. I highly recommend this book.

Unspoken By: Dee Henderson

If you are a fan of Dee Henderson’s books you will also enjoy this one, although her writing style has changed since previous books she still holds true to her attention to detail. Bryce Graham is bored with his everyday, running the coin shop and going about life has become boring, and with it he finds himself considering finding something else to do, and than Charlotte Graham appears, and with her a collection of coins that Bryce could only ever dream of seeing. Charlotte has asked him to sell all the coins, and as time goes on he finds that Charlotte isn’t who she claims to be, that there is something she isn’t saying.

Unspoken has strong characters that are enjoyable to read their story, many times things are hinted about their past but you never learn more which is a little disappointing as well as connections that become obvious later on in the book. I enjoyed this book a lot, however it was not quite the page turner that I have come to expect from Henderson. Lately her books seem more focused on the characters which is great but it leaves pieces of the plot lacking. With that being said, it is still worth reading and checking out!

Made to Last By: Melissa Tagg

Made to Last - By: Melissa Tagg

If any of you know me, you know that I have a love for Building with Habitat for Humanity, so finding a story where the lead character is a girl that loves to build things and has her own tool belt (In my mind hers is pink just like mine). Miranda Woodruff is your average tomboy, prefers flannel shirts over silk dresses, a tool belt over a manicure set and work boots instead of heels, along with that she has her own home building show and the public wants to know the story behind Miranda ‘Randi” Woodruff. However, Miranda has some secrets, some that could ruin her public image, a marriage that doesn’t exist, a past with pain she hopes to avoid. With the network considering cancelling her show her managers decide to hire a fake husband to boost publicity.

Matthew Knox is always on the hunt for the latest scoop, but with a mistake made five years ago he is still fighting to make a comeback in the national news, with the chance to do a serial blog and follow Randi Woodruff around that could lead to a cover story and the comeback he needs Matthew takes the job and moves to a cabin on Randi’s property. Him and Randi hit it off well, but he knows she isn’t telling him something, and that there is a big secret she is hiding. As Matthew unearths more and more of Randi’s life he finds his heart getting in the way, will he be able to spill her secrets?

Made to Last is the perfect autumn read to curl up with, a cast of characters that will have you laughing and crying throughout their story.  Melissa Tagg has woven a beautiful story about forgiving the past and fighting the labels that you have attached to yourself, to get past what the world has tagged you as and to live in the promise of God and what He has created you to be. Melissa Tagg has created a beautiful debut novel and I cannot wait to see what else is yet to come.

Jennifer: An O’Malley Love Story By: Dee Henderson

Throughout Dee Henderson’s hit The O’Malley Series, we’ve all had one question on our minds. How did Tom and Jennifer meet? After years of waiting and anticipation, Henderson, has brought us the novella of how Tom and Jennifer meet, her diagnosis of cancer and to the point where The Negotiator begins.

Jennifer is an adorable, heart-felt story that will have you laughing and crying. Jennifer had given up a year of dating and at the end of that she finds her self bumping into Tom, a surgeon who works in the same building as Jennifer. As time goes on Jennifer and Tom become closer, and Tom starts to share with her who Jesus is, and show by his own example what Jesus is offering.

With her new found faith and Tom by her side, Jennifer is ready to take steps into her future. As everything seems to be falling into place, Jennifer learns that she has been diagnosed with cancer. Will she be able to find the strength in her new faith to fight? Will Tom want to battle this alongside her?

Dee Henderson has done it again! Bringing back our favorite O’Malley’s and discover how Jennifer found Christ and how that decision affected the rest of her family. Henderson has an amazing way of writing, and introducing the characteristics of Jesus without attacking you with Christianese. Her writing and characters are so authentic you forget that they are not your best friends.

Make sure to check out Jennifer, and if you haven’t read them yet all of the other O’Malley books.

The Breath of Dawn By Kristen Heitzmann

The Breath of Dawn

Be prepared to not want to put this book down. The Breath of Dawn is the first book I have read from author Kristen Heitzmann and it does not disappoint. I have found that the books I am unsure about are the ones I end up staying up way past my bedtime reading.

Heitzmann has created two main character who do not find themselves in the position of a stereotypical suspense/romance novel. In most novels one character finds them in a situation where they need rescued, from a  person, themselves, their past, or many other things. However, Heitzmanns’ characters of Morgan Spencer and Quinn Reilly are both characters with a strong will, but both of them need rescued.

Morgan Spencer has suffered devastation in his life, his 2-year-old daughter, Livie, is the only thing that gets him through his day. On the other hand Quinn Reilly made a choice four years that put a man behind bars and a  threat on her life, now living under the radar, she lives in a world where she is always prepared to run, to not get too close to others. Morgan and Quinn quickly find their lives intertwining through circumstances, but it may just be what each of them needs to find themselves and both to start living again.

Heitzmann has created a story that will captivate you and keep you turning until the very last page. Her characters are strong and complex but also relate-able and fragile that you will connect to their stories. This book is hard to put into only one genre, Heitzmann is an amazing writer that can write across genres in one book from romance to suspense to mystery this book has it all.

If you are a fan of Dee Henderson, Lynette Eason and Dani Pettrey be sure to add Kristen Heitzmann to your list of must read authors!
