Children of God -Phil Wickham

Over a year and a half ago Phil Wickham lost his voice and had to under go surgery with the possibility that he may never sing professionally again. Now, after all that time Wickham has returned with his latest album ‘Children of God.’ From start to finish you can hear the truth of God’s love and who He is on this album. Wickham’s music has always been some of my favorite worship music with the ability to transport me into God’s presence, I am loving this latest album, as a whole and individually the songs speak to truth.

Sometimes Christian music can be a bit much and overly done, one of the things I love  Wickham’s music is the transparency he brings with each song, the passion that shows through each song that not only is he writing amazing music he is writing something that reflects who he is and what he has gone through.

The Beautiful Pretender By: Melanie Dickerson

The Beautiful Pretender By: Melanie Dickerson

I few years ago I was in search of something new to read, I knew what I liked but I wanted to find something new. I’ve always enjoyed fairy tales and the twists that people make when rewriting such well-known stories. Since reading Dickerson’s story I have always made a point to read anything new that is published from her. When I heard about the Beautiful Pretender I could not wait, partially because I love her writing and partially because anything in relation to Beauty and the Beast and I must read it.

The Beautiful Pretender is loosely based on Beauty and the Beast and the Princess and the Pea, and it is such a fun amazing story. It may be my favorite book of hers yet. It was such a fun captivating story and I love the lead characters. This book has everything and more, fairy tales, battles, spies, a fight for what’s right. I will always recommend that you should read Dickerson’s book, and I believe the Beautiful Pretender should make the top of your list.

Called to Be Amish: My Journey from Head Majorette to the Old Order By: Marlene Miller

Called to be Amish

What’s it like to be one of the few outsiders to leave the Englisch way of life and join the Old-Order Amish—and stay? In Called to Be Amish, this rare memoir by Marlene C. Miller, she recounts her unhappy and abusive childhood, how she throws herself into cheerleading and marching band, and how she falls in love with Johnny, the gentle young Amish man who helps her lace her ice skates.

My Review:

Growing up close to an Amish community I had some understanding of who the Amish were, but wow has this book shown me how little I actually knew. Marlene Miller’s story is amazing and inspiring, the transition from English to Amish is not an easy one, and not many people make that choice and survive. There is no glitz and glamour to this story, Marlene simply tells her story as it happened and it is beautiful. I am not usually one that reads memoirs, and picked this up in between another book and found myself leaving the other behind in order to finish and was up half the night because Marlene’s story is so captivating and truthful.

Marlene is authentic in her story telling and you will feel like you are sitting across the table from her sharing a cup of tea while learning about her life. I really enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to many of my friends. If you don’t like memoirs, put that aside and give this one a try, it is well worth it.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost #BehindtheGlow

I have loved being a member of Influenster! My most recent VoxBox was for this product, the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost water gel is a great product, I will agree with other reviews in saying that if you have very dry skin this may not be the way to go, unless it is in the summer. The winter months are just to harsh on my skin and this product did not last the entire day. That being said I have been using it at night and really like it at that time and a little goes a long way. I like that it is water based and at night still leaves my face feeling fresh.

Susie’s Hope: A Review

What I thought:

Susie’s Hope is an inspirational, true story that shows the effects of what animal abuse can cause to humans and to the animals affected. This is a good movie for those interested in learning more and those who have a soft spot for animals, make sure to bring a tissue box.

I’ve always been a fan of movies based on true stories and enjoyed this one, you may want to screen it before sharing it with kids because of a few scenes that may be a little graphic for a younger audience. The quality was better than I expected although the movie didn’t keep me tuned in through the entire thing it is still worth watching and will open your eyes to animal abuse.

About the movie: Run time 105 minutes

Based on the true story that successfully passed Susie’s Law in North Carolina, which seeks stricter punishment for animal abusers, Susie’s Hope brings to life the inspirational relationship between pit bull attack survivor Donna Lawrence and Susie, a pit bull-mix puppy found beaten, burned and left for dead. Recognizing reflect and abuse were to blame for the tragic attack that nearly claimed her life 10 months earlier, Donna resumes the battered animal and accepts her as family. Together, they learn to heal, love and forgive as they lead a historic effort to seek justice and protection, not only for Susie, but all animals. Starring Emmanuelle Vaguer (40 Days and 40 Nights), Burgess Jenkins (Remember The Titans) and Andrea Powell (Ender’s Game, Twilight: Breaking Dawn Saga: Part 2), Susie’s Hope is an incredible story of love, loss and redemption.

About Susie:
Susie was found nearly dead in Greenfield Park in Greensboro, North Carolina on August 20, 2009. Just a puppy, Susie had licked the face of her owner’s newborn baby. Her owner became violent—she was beaten so severely her jaw was broken. That wasn’t enough, though. She was then set on fire and left for dead. Incredibly and against all odds Susie survived. Donna Lawrence adopted her two months later. Susie is now a trained therapy dog and even won the American Humane Association’s American Hero Dog this year!

Irene Hannon has crafted a story that will keep you glued to the edge of your seat. Deceived, book 3 in the Private Justice book is the latest from Hannon and she has not disappointed. Hannon has created some amazing characters and has brought back some that we are familiar with in the latest story.

Book Review:

Rachel Hauck has been one of those authors with books hanging out on my TBR pile and yet I never get around to it. After reading Nashville Sweetheart they have been moved to the top of my list!  Nashville Sweetheart follows the story of Aubrey James and the trials she has to tackle being in the spotlight. This book is a reminder about finding who you are and that sometimes the hardest person to forgive is yourself. This is a fun read that you will enjoy from start to finish. This book is sure to make you a Rachel Hauck fan is you weren’t one previously.

I’ve never been a huge fan of make up and beauty supplies, well let me correct that I love the products just don’t like the time it takes to do all the prep work. Overall I’m pretty laid back and often choose comfort over style and make up but this is one of those products that is a must.

I’ve been using Aveeno Positively Radiant and absolutely love it! The texture is  silky smooth and after each use makes you feel clean and fresh rather than greasy. Not only have I noticed the changes in my skin but many friends have made comments on how my skin looks. This is a product to s=check out and I will be investing in it in the future.

It Had to be You By @Susanmaywarren

It Had to be You by Susan May Warren

Eden Christiansen never expected to be her younger brother, Owen’s, cheerleader. Attending all of his hockey games, being there whenever he needed something. When Owen begins to make some poor decisions Eden turns to Team Captain and Enforcer, Jace Jacobsen, who appears unwilling to help.

I have always loved Susan May Warren’s writing and specifically her Deep Haven books, and although ‘It Had to be You’ takes place in the city for the most part, this may be one of my favorite books! I love the character of Eden, disgruntled with her job and dreaming of more, investing fully in her family and the dreams they have! With both Jace and Eden you see how their characters struggle with the everyday and how they grow and change as the book continues.

Warren’s writing will draw you in and make you believe you are a member of the Christiansen family. For those of you who love a well developed christian romance story with a side of mystery, characters you can relate to, and a book you will not want to put down, this is the book for you!
