“When lies are not confronted, callings are not fulfilled”

Crash the Chatterbox By: Steven Furtick

We all have those voices in our head, the voices that tell us lies, that warp what we know is true into something different. That voice has the ability to skew the knowledge and truth of God into something so that we think that we are not good enough, that God expects something He doesn’t. That voice distracts us throughout our day, it keeps us unfocused and leads us down a path full of lies.

In Steven Furtick’s latest book, Crash the Chatterbox, he addresses all the noise and clutter that goes through our heads and how our minds can take a truth and by adding a simple word or intonation we change the meaning completely that causes us to believe that we are not who God wants us to be. That we are not doing the things we are supposed to be.

Crash the Chatterbox is a great book that helps to share how you can stop the voices and clutter within your mind and focus on God’s voice and the truth He has for you. Instead of allowing the voices to fill your head with lies and distract you from where you should be headed you can focus on God’s truth and the plan he has for you.

Trusting God

Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure

By: Sharon Jaynes, Gwen Smith and Mary Southerland

Trusting God is a 12 week adventure into changing your attitude and learning what it truly means to trust God. We all have told ourselves that we trust God, and that we will rely on Him for everything, but many times in our culture it is much easier to say that we trust God rather than actually trusting Him. Do we really know what it means to trust God fully? That if something were to happen we could give Him every piece of our lives and know that He will take care of us.

In Trusting God the Girlfriends in God team have created a devotional that can be done individually or with a group, each week has six short lessons packed with stories, scriptures and prayers to help us take the steps to trusting God more, at the end of each week there is a section that is for reflection on what was learned this week, questions to help you grow and scripture to study as well as an area to journal about what you’ve learned this week.

The Girlfriends in God team have shared themselves and the lessons they have learned along the way, with life stories and examples, full of scripture and resources this book will help you to take the steps from saying you trust in God to living a life knowing that your trust is in God.

Firsthand By Ryan and Josh Shook

Firsthand By Ryan and Josh Shook

Your parents raised you in a Christian family, they have shown you what a truly authentic and genuine relationship with God is. You follow their example, attend church, volunteer on the weekends, but something is missing. You can’t quite figure it out, but you know that something is missing.

Many of us live with a hand-me-down faith, we live the faith our parents have passed down to us, the faith that we have learned from each other, we know how we are supposed to act, how to look the part but have not taken the steps to make our faith our own. We rely on the faith we were taught, going through the motions on Sunday and acting like everyone else on Monday.

In Firsthand Ryan and Josh Shook are tackling this issue, our twenties are some of the toughest years we face, leaving home, discovering who we are and during those times we begin to question the faith we grew up with. In Firsthand each chapter will provide you with first-hand accounts of people who have asked the same questions, as well as questions that promote discussion and reflection and will challenge you as well as some challenges to help you take the first steps of defining your faith and making it your own.

Firsthand is a great book to help you stop going through the motions and following tradition to help you define and build a personal relationship with God.

Not This Time By: Vicki Hinze

Not This Time By: Vicki Hinze

There has been an attack in Seagrove Village and everyone fears that NINA, a terrorist organization, is behind it again. Sara’s husband is missing and possibly linked to the attack. Beth isn’t sure that Sara is going to be able to get through this, but she knows that Sara knows something, she is hiding something from Beth and it may be the reason behind all of the attacks and her missing husband.

Not This Time is the next book in the Crossroads Crisis Center Novels from Vicki Hinze, although the book has a slow start and confusing at times with so many characters and story lines to keep straight the story does pick up once you really get into it. Hinze has created a story that will keep you guessing, thinking you have solved what has been happening only to turn the next page and second guess what you originally thought. Before reading this I did not realize it was the 3rd book in a set and really look forward to reading the previous two for more background information on the characters and stories.

Hinze has created a great mystery that will keep you guessing from beginning to end.

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a world that can’t stop talking

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking By: Susan Cain

As an Introvert I absolutely loved the title of this book! As an introvert, I have heard all the stereotypes, and felt the push to be more outgoing, and felt the pressures of living in an extroverted world. Cain points out through the first few chapters that being ‘quiet’ is not a negative, that being an introvert is not a bad thing, introverts simply approach problems and life from a different perspective.

Cain approaches this book from a scientific perspective and uses many sources and surveys as well as personal experiences  to back what she is saying. Cain continues throughout the book to remind us of introverts throughout history who have made a difference and has made a powerful impact in the world. This book is research based and focuses primarily on introverts and how they are succeeding in an extroverted world. Cain offers advice for introverts, but it can be advice for anyone.

I recommend this book for anyone to read, especially for those self-proclaimed introverts, this book will open your eyes and help you to realize and understand some of your thought processes as an introvert and why you may feel uncomfortable in certain circumstances.
