The Golden Braid By: Melanie Dickerson

There are some stories that transport you, to a new time, to a new place, all of Melanie Dickerson’s books have the ability to do just that and her latest, the Golden Braid is no different. The Golden Braid is a new twist on the classic story of Rapunzel.

I’ve always loved fairy tales, but you’ve never seen or read this version of Rapunzel before, I love how Dickerson is able to take a story we all know and turn it on its side to be come a new story that is still true to the heart of the original. Dickerson has also found a way to weave Christ into her stories. I highly recommend all of her books.

Luminary By: @KristaMcGeeYA

Thalli is back in the second book in the Anomaly trilogy and the Scientists are still on her trail. After finding their way to the surface Thalli, Berk, Rhen and John find themselves on a 900 mile trek across what used to be the United States. After long days filled with dust and attacks from animals they had only seen on screens the group finally makes it to the town of New Hope, where Thalli learns the truth of what happened to the world. With so many questions Thalli is not sure what to believe. With violence from the nearby town of Athens threatening New Hope, Thalli volunteers to go on a peace seeking mission to find a way for the towns to work together. From everything she has heard of about Athens she expects to find a town of ruthless people but instead finds Prince Alex who is kind and a city in need of help. With the stories of the Designer that John has told her Thalli finds herself searching for answers and the truth but her time is running short because the State is closing in on the group.

Krista McGee never fails to impress and continues the Anomaly Trilogy  with a captivating story of hope! This story will surprise you from beginning to end, with twists and turns around every corner and new characters you will love. McGee keeps you guessing all the way through. This trilogy will be the next big dystopian book! The only negative is having to wait until July for the conclusion! I absolutely loved this book!

Forgiveness: Overcoming the Impossible By: @Matthew_West

Forgiveness, it’s such a simple word but encompasses so much, many times we are told to ‘forgive and forget’ but it is never that easy, and because of that not forgiving others actually causes more harm to us.

A few years back, Christian music artist, Matthew West, was on a mission to discover the stories of the lives of ordinary people. What happened was incredible as he received over twenty thousand beautiful stories of everyday people. Through these stories West learned that forgiveness was unavoidable and an essential part of life that could bring peace and fulfillment.

Forgiveness can define who we are as a person, it can mean the difference between brokenness and healing, joy and peace. Through all of the stories West realized there were four very important questions that needed answered

1. Is there someone in my life I need to forgive?

2. Is there someone I have wronged and need to ask to forgive me?

3. Have I forgiven myself for mistakes I’ve made in my past?

4. Have I embraced my need of the forgiveness God offers to me?

Through this book Matthew West has compiled a list of stories about forgiveness that will touch your heart but will also move you to realize the story of forgiveness in your lives. Each story will cover different topics from forgiving others, forgiving yourself, asking for forgiveness and embracing God’s forgiveness.

This book will help you to understand how the power of forgiveness can affect someone’s life and show you that although it is difficult, and everything in you may be screaming not to forgive someone for the hurt they have caused, that the only way to find peace and joy is to give forgiveness and accept it from others.

This is a powerful book that will have you examining who in your life you need to forgive or whose forgiveness you may need to accept. You will be moved with the many stories of real people and what they have gone through. This is not necessarily a book you can read straight through, but is a great reminder that when you are struggling to forgive someone you can turn to any of these stories and be reminded of the power of forgiveness.

#DarkHalo By: Shannon Dittemore

Dark Halo By: Shannon Dittemore

Jake is missing, the fight above Stratus continues and Brielle has a meeting with the devil where she is offered a choice.  Brielle has a choice to make.  One allows her to see the celestial, and the other will take away her site. With a war happening above Stratus, it is becoming more tempting for Brielle to choose the devil’s halo, a halo that will allow her to no longer see the fear creeping throughout her town, the hurt of each individual.

With the third and final book in Shannon Dittemore’s Angel Eyes trilogy Brielle has a decision to make, and the town of Stratus has a choice. Much like the first two books Dittemore has an amazing ability to craft words together that make you feel as if you are watching a movie rather than reading a book. With the rich detail you will dream of seeing the Celestial and hearing the Sabre’s song. The final book will keep you glued to the pages and take you on the adventure of a lifetime. Dittemore has combined the young adult genre and her faith in God to tell a beautiful story that will also challenge you to consider the meanings of temptation and how powerful worship and prayer can be.

If you enjoy a good YA novel, the Angel Eyes Trilogy is a must read! I am sad to see Jake and Brielle’s story come to an end, but hope to see more from Shannon Dittemore soon.

Anomaly By: Krista McGee

Anomaly By: Krista McGee

The world has been destroyed by nuclear war, with the planet  left uninhabitable a group of ten scientists have created a new world underground, a society of engineered humans. They have each been created with a specific purpose and task to perform within the underground world. However, there are no emotions, no relationships, they complete their task and aim to be as efficient as possible.

Thalli is different, she asks questions, has a curiosity about the world that is looked down by others. For seventeen years she has managed to hide the fact that she is an anomaly, and now her life is in danger. Her days are numbered until the scientists are done using her as a test subject and decide that she will be annihilated. As she waits Thalli begins to hear stories about the Designer, someone who has a bigger plan for her life much bigger than she could have ever dreamed of.

If you are a fan of The Hunger Games, Divergent, Farenheit 451, and other dystopian books you must read Anomaly! McGee approaches the dystopian books from a Christian perspective.

Anamoly will glue you to each page until the very end, with strong characters you want to learn more about, you will identify with Thalli as she searches to learn more about the Designer and what the means for her life.  The only negative about this book is you will have to wait until next summer to read the second one.

This book is a must read for everyone’s reading list.

Right Where I Belong By Krista McGee

Right where I belong By Krista McGee

As 17-year-old Natalia watches her fathers third marriage come to and end she isn’t sure where to go. With her new-found faith, Natalia is worried that once her soon to be ex-step-mother leaves she won’t have someone to discuss her faith with.

Instead of watching her father go through another divorce, and most likely another marriage, Natalia decides to swear off love and follow her ex-step-mother from Spain where she has lived all her life to Florida, where she will finish high school, what she doesn’t expect to find there is the chance to go to a christian high school, learn that the path her father has in mind for her is not the one that God has in store, and although she has sworn off love, she does not expect to meet Brian, the local pastor’s son.

Krista McGee is an amazing young adult/teen-lit author, her stories are clean and wholesome and in the end you may just learn something about yourself. Right Where I Belong is a reminder of God’s plans for each of us, and although others may have certain expectations for our lives that we may not want to follow but are unsure which path to take God will not fail us. When the time is right He will show us the way, and we will end up right where we belong.

Broken Wings By Shannon Dittemore

Broken Wings By Shannon Dittemore

Broken Wings is the second book in the Angel Eyes Trilogy, picking up a short time after where Angel Eyes left off Dittemore does not disappoint in the second book of the trilogy.  After everything Elle has been through in the past she is starting to move on after Ali’s death, her and Jake are growing closer and Elle dreams of the day when there will be a ring on her finger. As Elle grows closer to Jake and Canaan; however, Elle’s dad seems to be getting more disagreeable and is drinking more than ever before.

Something is going on, something that is keeping Canaan away more than usual. The sabre have gathered and there are whispers of movement on both ends. One of the Sabre makes a move so that Elle may learn the truth and learns something that has been kept from her about her mothers past, between that, her fathers drinking and the fear she sees and Jake that she does not understand things are getting tough. The halo used to keep the nightmares away but now Elle can hardly sleep through the night, Elle is beginning to see the celestial without the halo and she thinks she may have seen Damien in town and now with the halo having gone missing there is no telling what may happen. Jake and Elle have been targeted by evil and a battle is coming, what will happen if darkness is able to get what they are after? Will good be able to conquer evil, or will evil win and take Elle and Jake with it?

Dittemore has once again pulled you into the pages of the story with characters you will love. She has a way of writing where the words come off the pages and will have you laughing, crying and on the edge of your seat through the entire book. Dittemore’s descriptions of what the celestial and what worship look like will have you dreaming of heaven . You will not want to put this book down, the only problem is you will have to wait for the next book to be released!

Second Changes Everything. @IamSecond

It seems like many of us have grown up in a culture that tells us we should put ourselves first. We should strive to be in charge of our own future, to make first place on teams, to go after the promotion at work, to focus on me and what my needs are. Many of us have fallen into this trap of putting ourselves first, of never asking for help and relying on ourselves to get the job done, to provide for our families, to get to the next step in our lives, we lean on ourselves and see asking or seeking help as a sign of weakness.

Live Second tells you just the opposite. To go against the grain of what culture will accept as the norm, and look to someone else to provide, offer guidance, someone for you to lean on in time of trouble. Live Second will challenge you to step back and not put yourself, your family or your job first.  Live Second is a daily reminder to instead of putting things of this world and ourselves in first place, to change positions and place ourselves second and put Jesus first everyday.

Live Second is not your normal book or devotional, it is a daily reader that will challenge you to put Jesus first in every circumstance, but unlike other daily devotionals Live Second also uses social media to continue the discussion of what you learn each day and to share with others what being second means.

Live Second is broken down into different sessions with an over-arching theme and focus, each daily reading will provide you with Bible passages, questions to help you to dig deeper into the passage as well as questions to encourage you to implement what you learn into your everyday life.

Live Second is a book like no other that combines a daily devotional with social media to help you to grow in your walk with God and to teach you what it means to be second. This is an amazing book that will change who you are and how you respond to the world around you. Be prepared to see a change in your life and take the steps to becoming Second, I am Second, are you?
